Travel through the wine and food basket area of the Waimea Plains and the historic Moutere region
before driving up Takaka Hill and taking a short walk through ancient rock formations and unique
forest to the first breathtaking viewpoints overlooking Motueka, Waimea, Tasman Bay, Nelson and the
Mount Richmond Forest Park.
Within a short distance enjoy the stunning views of both Abel Tasman, Kahurangi National Parks and
Golden Bay from ‘Marble Mountain’ from one of the highest roads in New Zealand, and its amazing
rock formations. Descend into Golden Bay and the township of Takaka.
Morning refreshments before strolling through the fascinating limestone outcrops of the Grove
Reserve accompanied by authentic stories of the weird and wonderful!
Take a short walk to the Abel Tasman Memorial lookout before proceeding around historic and
picturesque bays and over Pigeon Saddle to the sparkling golden sand bay of Totaranui for a
sumptuous gourmet picnic lunch.
Walk the remote north of the stunning Abel Tasman National park through some of the parks best
forest, alive with bird life and along the loveliest golden sand beaches towards Separation Point
where seals and shags rest on interesting rock formations.
Return to Nelson 5-6pm, or later at your discretion.
