Weather

The Nelson region is famous for its climate and is renowned as the sunniest region in New Zealand.

The climate is temperate: the hottest months are usually January and February, when temperatures average 22˚C, but even in winter, the days often feel spring-like in the sun. Winter snowfall is common in the mountains during July and August, but snowfall in Nelson city is unheard of. In fact, it is not uncommon to return from a day snowboarding in the mountains to see people on the beach sunbathing!

Nelson has over 2500 sunshine hours each year, a natural phenomena that positively effects the whole region and its inhabitants. The lifestyle is generally relaxed and laidback and the people are friendly and welcoming.
